Friday, July 29, 2016 - 1:15pm

The MobileMe&You Conference has expanded to Chicago and San Francisco for MobileMe&You2, Oct. 27-29.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications is co-sponsoring the conference, which was held for the first time at University of Nebraska–Lincoln last fall.

“As mobile media use increases every year, mobile media are not just the way to reach the youth audience; they are the way to reach the entire audience,” said Gary Kebbel, University of Nebraska–Lincoln journalism professor and organizer of the conference. “The conference is designed to help journalists learn mobile and social media best practices.”

Participants can register to attend the conference in either city. The downtown Chicago and downtown San Francisco sites are new conference and teaching spaces of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communication. They will be digitally connected. Attendees can expect to learn from experts speaking in each city about how to use a variety of mobile media to improve newsgathering, storytelling and distribution.

Topics that will be discussed at the conference include: the latest in social media, wearables, drone journalism, sensor journalism, 360 video reporting and virtual reality. Authors of various mobile media research reports will discuss their work. Keynote speakers will be announced on the conference website in August.

Kebbel said this year’s conference will focus on what journalists can learn from one another and from other industries that are excelling in mobile and social media.

There will be a reception at both conference sites Thursday, Oct. 27, and the events will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28 and continue through Saturday, Oct. 29.

The CoJMC is co-sponsoring with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Midwest Center for Investigative Reporting, University of Illinois College of Media, Northwestern University Knight Lab, Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications and Univision Communications Inc.
