Why did you choose to come to Nebraska and specifically the College of Journalism? : I chose to come to Nebraska for a few reasons. I wanted to go to a Big Ten school and Nebraska was far enough from Chicago to go away, not too far that I couldn’t go home for a visit. They also have a great program for my major, I play golf, and they had a well-known club golf team. The COJMC was a no-brainer for me, really, I knew I wanted to go to school to study sports broadcasting and I was so welcomed by all the advisors, specifically Rick Alloway and John Schrader.
Who at Nebraska has helped you be successful? Is there a professor who has made a big impact on your education? : Absolutely, Rick Alloway and John Shrader have been just tremendous. Rick really got me started and when I went to talk to him my Freshman year about my radio show, he offered me a job with the KRNU Sports Staff. That’s how I met John Shrader, who leads that group. John is so good at making sure things are in order for broadcasts, critiquing you in a way you understand, pushing you to become better. Those 2 deserve SO much credit for what i’ve learned at the COJMC.
What classes are you taking this year? Any you're most excited for? : I’m really excited for BRSC 375. As a member of the sports staff, i always was at the football games doing Husker Countdown and Sideline Reporting, so I always saw the 375 class calling the football games and I have wanted to do that so bad. Hard to even thing of that as a “class” or an “assignment.”
Describe your current job/internship. Are there any other internships you've had throughout your time at CoJMC? : So i’ve had a few, I have worked for the KRNU sports staff. That’s the sports staff that leads the KRNU broadcasts for all sports the cover. We do pregame shows, sideline reports, go to all the press conferences, and produce the games. I’ve worked under some great people With KRNU. I also had an internship this summer at 93.7 The Ticket.
Have you studied abroad—where, when, favorite city and memory? : Haven’t studied abroad. The place I really love to travel to is Eagle River, WI. My dad and I have gone up there every year since I was probably 5, and we go a few times a year. We fish, golf, hike, relax. Great times.
Are there any organizations you're involved in on or off campus? Any other hobbies? : I play for the Nebraska Club Golf team, i’m also an Exec for the team, so we play in multiple tournaments in the fall/spring across the midwest, we do a lot as a team, it’s a great way to play some tournament golf in college. Hobbies include working out, playing guitar, hiking, fishing.
Throw out a fun (maybe quirky) fact about you. : The only thing that really comes to mind is that i’m semi-ambidextrous when it comes to sports. Everything I swing, in lefty. So I golf lefty, I played hockey lefty, swung lefty in baseball. Everything I throw, i’m right. Pitched righty, shoot a basketball righty, write right handed. it’s weird.
Are you working on any special projects?: Not at the moment. just getting ready for the football season with KRNU.
Do you have any post graduation plans? If not don't stress—what would you like to do? : I would love to do either play-by-play for football or NASCAR, or work at the Golf Channel.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? : Race car driver.
What has been your favorite class at CoJMC? What about one outside of CoJMC? : Favorite in the COJMC.. Probably Spmc 150. outside, History of Rock and it isn’t even close.
Fill in the blank: "The best thing about being a Husker is ___________________." : the community you’re a part of.
Advice for a new CoJMC student? : Be open to every opportunity you get in whatever you want to do. Always.
