Five College of Journalism and Mass Communication majors were named Chancellor’s Scholars on March 26. To be named a Chancellor’s Scholar is the highest academic award the university offers to undergraduate students. These students have earned an A in every undergraduate class.

This distinction is shared by 66 student scholars who will graduate in May. The students and their majors are listed below for your reference.

Rebecca Boyd - Advertising & Public Relations, Psychology

"My selection as a chancellor scholar is a great testament to the amazing community of supportive professors within UNL's COJMC and the University as a whole. Hard work and dedication go a long way, but the opportunities afforded me through the COJMC community helped bolster my determination and give me the tools for success. It feels great to be recognized for my hard work, but behind every chancellor scholar is a network of amazing professors and patient advisors that made this accomplishment possible. Because of UNL's  incredible community and the faithfulness of my God, I am a proud chancellor scholar and a Husker for life."

"It means so much to me to be selected as a Chancellor's Scholar. I am so grateful for my past and current professors who have inspired me, challenged me academically, and given me the necessary tools to succeed in my future career. I am also grateful to everyone at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications for fostering an empowering environment for students and providing a multitude of hands-on experiences for students in a variety of different fields. I feel so lucky I had the opportunity to attend the University of Nebraska - Lincoln for my undergraduate career and am so excited for what's to come!"

John Grinvalds – Journalism

John Grinvalds

"First, I'd like to thank grade inflation. Without that, I'm not sure I ever would've made it.

On a more serious note: I'm honored and grateful to be selected as a Chancellor's Scholar. During my time at UNL, I've been fortunate to learn from so many amazing and talented professors. The depth of knowledge and range of interest among the professors at this university always astonishes me. My college, the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, alongside the many other colleges I interacted with, put me in touch with peers who continually inspire me. I'm thankful that this university provides the resources students need to pursue academic excellence. And I'm thankful that I got to spend four years of my life--with all its joys and sorrows, its weeks of procrastination punctuated by intense bouts of focus--at this great university."

"It means so much to be selected as a Chancellor’s Scholar. UNL has give me amplev opportunities to grow and thrive academically, athletically and personally. I am blessed to have so many supportive professors and faculty members support me in my efforts and challenge me to continue to learn and grow. I spent countless hours studying and even shed some tears in the process, but it was all worth it for all that I’ve learned. Thank you UNL!"

Jared Long – Journalism, Political Science

Jared Long

"Being recognized as a Chancellor's Scholar represents not just the culmination of four years of hard work and dedication but more importantly the dividends paid by others' investments in me, including those from my advisors, instructors, and peers. My time at Nebraska has prepared me to reinvest those experiences in others in the hopes that they, too, can find similar success."
