University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications students received a total of $2.3 million in scholarships from the college and the university for the 2016-17 academic year.

“We are so thankful to our generous donors who invest our students and incredibly proud of our talented students who received these awards,” said Dean Maria Marron.

Of the 512 CoJMC students who applied, 348 received an award, which averages $4,200 per student. This year, the CoJMC had a record number of applicants.

The largest scholarship the CoJMC awards each year is the Andersen Scholarship, which $12,000 a year for four years. This year’s scholarship went to incoming freshman Sara Kline of Fairfax, Virginia.

In order to be considered for a scholarship, students had to apply. A committee of faculty members then selected the winners through a rigorous process.

For the 2015-16 academic year, CoJMC students received a total of $1.8 million in scholarships from the college and the university.
