CoJMC launches emergency scholarship program

Sunday, August 18, 2019 - 5:45am

The College of Journalism and Mass Communications announces a new emergency scholarship available for undergraduate students.

“Life can throw our students a curveball and we want to be there to help,” said Amy Struthers, interim dean of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. “Through the generous support of our alumni and donors, we will now have one more tool to help students facing tragic situations.”

Applications will be available beginning Aug. 26, 2019, to support students who are facing unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances threatening their progress toward a degree. To keep students in school, funds will be used to support tuition and fees for selected applicants. Students must apply to receive funding and award amounts will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. The college will work closely with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Office of scholarships and Financial Aid to ensure that awarded funds provide the greatest benefit to students.

“This fund will provide a last line of defense for students,” said Struthers. “It is one more way we can live our mantra of students first.” For additional information about the emergency scholarship program, please visit https://journalism.unl.edu/emergency-scholarship.
