Star City News won the top prize for best news program. Junior broadcasting major Chase Thompson took the trophy for best audio news feature with “Suicides of College Students,” and May 2018 graduate Kellan Heavican took top honors for video hard news with “Growth Threatens Fire Safety.”

CoJMC students won honorable mentions in: audio and video spot production, entertainment program, documentary, entertainment shorts, video news feature, public affairs show, audio hard news and radio DJ talent.

Representing CoJMC at the conference were: Jeremy Davis, a senior broadcasting major and president of the UNL chapter of the National Broadcasting Society; NBS member Eric Boggs, a junior broadcasting major, and Laurie Thomas Lee, NBS faculty adviser.

The conference was held in conjunction with the Broadcast Education Association On-Location conference at the University of Houston where the Nebraskans attended workshops in Adobe Premiere, After Effects and Adobe Spark.

While in Houston, they also toured Moffett Productions, a creative services video and audio production company, and Houston Public Media, home of the PBS/NPR affiliate and temporary home of the local CBS affiliate that lost its building in Hurricane Harvey last year.

The group also visited the NASA Space Center, including a tour of Mission Control.
