New Students: Here's your passport to success!

Start your journey at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications with visits to these events that will help you succeed in your classes and in your student life.

Get your passport stamped or signed at five or more of these seven events and you’ll get a free T-shirt - AND your name will be entered in a drawing for a $1,500 scholarship.

• 1. CoJMC Welcome Night
  Tuesday, Aug. 21, 5:30 p.m.
  Andersen 15
  Meet the faculty and the Student Advisory Board and find out about clubs and other activities - like KRNU and the Daily Nebraskan and Jacht, the student ad agency.
  Free pizza!
• 2. Tailgate Party
  Saturday, Sept. 1, two hours before the start of the Huskers vs. Southern Mississippi game
  Andersen Hall lobby and Holman Plaza, just outside the west doors
  Join fellow new students in the CoJMC to kick off the football season.
• 3. Intern Nights
  Sept. 11 and 12, 5:30 p.m.
  Andersen 15
  Find out how to get an internship and get a jump-start on planning your career - and enjoy some more free food.

  Advertising/Public Relations Intern Night
  Wednesday, Sept. 12, 5:30 p.m., Andersen 15
• 4. Advising Advice ProAm
  Thursday, Oct. 4, 5:30 p.m.

  Get tips on planning your spring schedule and registering for classes from Mike Goff, the college’s chief adviser, and from some well-informed upperclassmen. And we’ll have free food again!
• 5. Career Fair
  Friday, Oct. 26, noon-5 p.m.
  Andersen 15
  Talk with employers who are looking for interns.
  Network for future jobs.
• 6. Meet with your adviser before priority registration begins on Oct. 24
  If you don’t know who your adviser is, ask the staff in Room 147, the main CoJMC office.
  Get your adviser to sign your passport.
• 7. Attend at least one student group meeting before Thanksgiving
  You got information about all the groups at Welcome Night.
  The Web address for each group is on the college’s home page. Find “Student Organizations” under the “Undergraduate” tab.
  Get the group’s adviser to sign your passport.

And don’t forget to attend UNL’s welcome activities. These stops aren’t listed on your passport, but they’re worth making anyway.

  Sunday, Aug. 19
  Class Schedule Tours, 1 - 3 p.m.
  Convocation - Lied Center, 5 p.m.
  Festival and picnic, 6 p.m.
