M.A.  News-Editorial

Kathy holds a bachelor of arts degree in English with a music minor
from Westmar University, LeMars, Iowa. Her home state is Iowa, but
since she moved around a lot as a youngster, she doesn't claim a
hometown. Prior to moving to Lincoln, Neb., she worked as a newspaper
reporter with The Daily Reporter in Spencer, Iowa. She chose the
CoJMC master's program because she loved her newspaper experience and
was looking to move her career forward. UNL was also more practical
since Kathy was living and working there already and she didn't want
to uproot her family. Kathy's secondary career interest is building
and maintaining web pages. The CoJMC has the faculty, technology and
equipment to support that interest as well. Faculty members have
encouraged the blending of her news editorial and Internet interests
and she wants to continue to merge those career areas. In addition to
her journalism master's degree, she'll also have a minor in Teaching,
Learning & Teacher Education (TLTE). She currently works in UNL's
Academic Affairs office working on their web pages and on a data
exchange program. Kathy enjoys spending time with her family, which
includes two boys, Steven, 17 & Michael, 12. She also likes to walk
her dog, read, write, visit with her dad and brothers, follow Husker
sports teams, travel, surf the web (including Facebook) and listen to
the radio for both news and music.
