More experience and LEARNING

Today was my REAL last day of training. After today, I will be tossed into the bowl of reporters and will be asked to report on stories and be ready to do live shots in studio and out in the field. It was an exciting day for me, as Colleen Williams and I went to the next Road Less Traveled town.

This time around it was Brule, Nebraska, and it was quite the interesting town. One of the neatest facts about the town was that nearly every single major Nebraska road went through it or very near it. Interstate 80, the Lincoln Highway(Highway 30), you name it.

My favorite part of the day today though was riding in the car with Colleen. It was because she taught me a lot of stuff we as students might not hear in the classroom. She critiqued my video that I shot last week, and told me what things I could do better for today. We had a portable laptop editor with us, so she could go through some of my shots and let me know what she was meaning.

After we shot the video for today's Road Less Traveled, she said she can already see the improvement from last week. It has been pretty great working with an experience anchor like her, because I am able to gain amazing knowledge about shooting that I might not be able to pick up otherwise.

With today done, I will be getting ready to get out on the field and start putting stories together. It will be my biggest challenge as of yet, and I am looking forward to it more and more. I will be back Wednesday night with more blogging from Kearney! Thanks for reading.

My name is Spencer Schubert, and I am going to be a junior double-major in Broadcasting and News-Editorial. During the school year, I have written for the DN, co-hosted a show on ESPN Radio for two-thirds of the year, and also worked for a TV Station based out of Kearney.
