Back to the police scanners
June 18, 2007
Kerry ter Kuile, KETV Newswatch 7 in Omaha, NE.
If you've been keeping up with the various bloggers and their entries, you've realized by now that I'm not funny. Sometimes I think I'm funny, but for the sake of my blogs I've decided to just tell you about my experiences here at KETV -
So about now I'm headed toward the end of my shift at the assignment dest here in the newsplex and in the past half hour we've had someone drown in the Missouri river, a shooting in south Omaha, and a gas leak in a rather large apartment complex. Busy day I'd say, but we still have an hour and a half until the 10pm newscast so I'm not making any assumptions on the rest of the evening.
Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to be en route to the Renissance Fair in Iowa with a photographer when we passed a home in Council Bluffs going up in flames. Since I was the only "reporter" at the scene with the photographer I was lucky enough to get some experience with talking to the assistant fire chief and witnesses who called in the fire.
After we got back to the station I logged the tape and set up a hypothetical package just for fun. Nothing I work on can hit the air due to union specifications, but the whole event was an exciting experience nevertheless.
Well, for now it's back to the police scanners, filing press releases and answering the phone.
