The easiest and hardest $2,500 I've ever made
June 11 , 2007
Kerry ter Kuile, KETV Newswatch 7 in Omaha, NE.
By this time in my internship, work and responsibilities have picked up quickly! I went from answering the newroom phone and listening to the police scanners to logging tapes, interviewing, filing press releases, and getting the "scoop" on possible news story ideas.
I'm hoping to get some field time with the College World Series next week. Some of my true interests in broadcasting are centered on sports reporting. The opportunity to behind the scenes during the World Series games would be great, but we'll see if I get the opportunity I've been asking for.
Reporters here are starting to be very honest with me in regards to the sometimes hard life of television reporting. They mention the often times low starting pay, the long hours, and need for dedication to the field of work.
After all, I'm still trying to figure out exactly which branch of broadcasting I would like to work in, so their words of wisdom are very helpful.
I took a few days off from this internship to travel to North Platte for the Miss Nebraska pageant. I ended the week taking home some scholarship money and the title of 3rd runner up.
It was the the easiest and hardest $2,500 I've ever made in my life! But for now, it's back to work. More to come later!
