First Week

June 20, 2007
Cassie Fleming
The Fund for American Studies' Institute on Political Journalism at Georgetown University, Washington D.C.

I am in the middle of my first week in Washington D.C. and - besides the high heels-induced blisters blanketing my feet - I am having an incredible time. I am taking a journalism class with USA Today's Richard Benedetto, as well as economics and media ethics classes at Georgetown. I am also a publications intern at the National Association of Corporate Directors. Currently I am copy editing their magazine, Directors Monthly, and writing for and designing their catalog.

While sitting through journalism seminars and classes and while working at my internship I feel journalistically well prepared - and this is because I constantly have all four of your voices floating through my head, reminding my of the lessons and lectures my CoJMC professors have taught the last two years.

So, I just wanted to drop a quick thank you for imparting your knowledge upon me and for remaining in my head even while I am on the East Coast.

I will be a junior news-editorial, political science major from Fort Collins, CO. This summer I am participating in The Fund for American Studies' Institute on Political Journalism at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. During the day, I work as the publications intern at the National Association of Corporate Directors. I work on their various publications, including their magazine, Directors Monthly. In the evenings I take three classes and attend journalism seminars at Georgetown. Additionally, I have the privilege of going to Capitol Hill or the White House for briefings or speakers once a week. Email Me, View All Cassie's Entries
