Joseph Weber
China’s interest in the West is strong and growing, University of Nebraska-Lincoln associate professor Joseph Weber told staffers at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services department in Lincoln. Weber delivered his talk in person to a group at one of two CIS facilities in Lincoln and it was simulcast electronically to a group at the service’s second facility. Weber taught business and economic journalism and multimedia journalism in China under the aegis of the International Center for Journalists, a Washington group that encourages the growth of journalism around the world.
Ross Benes
May grad Ross Benes invested $10,000 in early March and ended with holdings worth $12,177.84 at market close on April 26. His prize for that 21.9 percent return? A University of Nebraska–Lincoln alumni cap and pride that he took first place in the investing contest in the college’s business and economic reporting and writing course this spring. Benes will take his knowledge to Crain’s Detroit Business. He accepted a six-month internship where he’ll write stories about corporate strategy, economics, earnings, personality profiles and more.
SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards

SPJ’s Region 7 comprises Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. First-place winners will move on to the national MOE competition among category winners from the 12 SPJ regions.
