JOUR 498/898 International Media: Germany (Berlin & Munich)

germany

Pre-session: one week at UNL and two weeks in Germany As the world becomes smaller with technological advances and global market expansion, journalists, advertisers and communicators must become familiar with factors influencing their field. As the third largest economy in the world, Germany is one of the most important trading partners and political allies of the United States. This course explores issues modern Germany is facing in a globalized world from a professional media perspective. We will meet with journalists, advertising agencies, and a variety of media outlets in the creative heart of Germany, Berlin, as well as Munich, the home of many of Germany's major film studios.

JOUR 498/898: International Media: Mexico

  mexico

Pre-session: May 18-June 5, 2009
One week at UNL and two weeks in Cozumel, Mexico

Is the use of mass media really any different outside of the U.S.? You'll find out as we explore news and advertising in Cozumel. This island in Mexico's Yucatan peninsula is considered by many to be a tropical paradise. Because it's one of the world's top cruise ship destinations, Cozumel is a laboratory of cross-cultural communication. The small town feel and island environment make this an ideal place to examine the role of mass media in a developing country. We'll meet with broadcast and print journalists, marketing specialists and local students and families. This trip is limited to a small group. Don't delay your registration if you would like this experience.
