National Student Advertising Competition
The National Student Advertising Competition is the premier college advertising competition and a program of the American Advertising Federation. NSAC provides more than 3,000 college students with real-world experience by requiring a strategic advertising/marketing/media campaign for a corporate sponsor. Recent corporate sponsors have included Yahoo!, Coca Cola, Postal Vault, AOL and in 2009, the Century Council, a coalition of alcohol distributors.
Schools from each AAF district compete in late April each year to win a spot at “nationals” and present their campaigns to a panel of industry executives at the AAF National Conference. Before 2004, UNL’s involvement in NSAC was almost nonexistent. Since then, committed faculty and students have increased participation in NSAC and have achieved new levels of success.
In April 2009, the UNL NSAC team, Volation, won first place in AAF District 9, a first for UNL and an accomplishment that resulted in an all-expense paid trip to nationals in Washington, D.C., for the team and advisers. Judges praised the team’s edgy creative work and nontraditional approach to the growing problem of binge drinking on college campuses.
