KOLN-TV Reporter/Weathercaster
KOLN/KGIN-TV is currently seeking a journalist for our Lincoln newsroom who cares about viewers and serves them best with news coverage that dominates the market and weathercasts for a coverage area the size of Virginia. This position would be assigned about equally to news reporting and on-air weather casting duties.
Duties include:
The ideal candidate should be able to report, write, shoot, edit, anchor, produce, plan, webpost, and generate stories. Have knowledge of news and ability to cover it ethically and professionally, also have the ability to develop story ideas from inception to completion, and to develop our news coverage by collaborating with our larger news team. Weather casting duties would include producing for on-air, online and other media, including preparation of content, details usage of weather equipment, graphics and studio equipment. Have the ability to work with producers and follow directions of newscast director’s and producer’s on-air and have the ability and willingness to work beyond structured format and shifts as needed.
Qualifications include:
College degree in Journalism, Meteorology or related field. The knowledge and ability to perform the duties as outlined above. Must be familiar with all aspects of newsroom practices and related equipment. Knowledge of journalism ethics, slander and libel laws. Good public relation skills are essential. Maintain a permanent residence within 30 minutes of the station. Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
The work schedule may vary due to temporary or permanent schedule changes. Work assignments may include evening, weekend and out-of-town overnight assignments.
