KOLN-TV Sports Journalist (full-time)
KOLN/KGIN-TV’s Sports Crew needs a third full-time staff member who knows sports broadly and covers it well as a professional TV journalist. Position requires a sports journalist who can cultivate, report, shoot, write, edit, produce and anchor sports coverage at a station and a market which prioritizes sports coverage, including traveling coverage as needed. Position includes news work at times.
Duties include:
Know sports generally and cover local sports news specifically, professionally write sports/news stories for self and other producers, cover sports/news stories as a photojournalist, perform live shots professionally, produce sportscasts with solid news judgment reflecting accuracy, objectivity, clarity. Safe and professional equipment operation, including set-up, tear-down and transport of TV gear for professional video/audio presentations, and keeping vehicles fueled & clean, operate computers and software required in the News Department, regularly update the station website, including video streaming, and perform duties as assigned for KOLN/KGIN digital channels and contribute story ideas by making suggestions to the Sports Director.
Qualifications include:
College degree in journalism/media, professional experience with sports coverage including writing/reporting/producing sports stories and/or sportscasts with experience using TV newsgathering equipment, including cameras and editing systems, and live shot experience. Must have a permanent residence within 30 minutes of station, valid drivers license and satisfactory driving record
Hours:
Work schedule may vary due to schedule changes. Work assignments may include weekend, evening, and out-of-town overnight assignments. Reasonable and regular attended required.
