College News Magazine looking for freelance $$ student writers
College News Magazine has free lance opportunities for CoJMC students this summer and fall. We're branching out our Web site to include news, politics, videos, sex and dating, and more in addition to tons of entertainment stories.
We're looking for writers of original content as well as news reporters to be linking us to breaking news from their campus as well as national news from across the country. Freelance pay will probably range from between $20 for short stories, like a top 5 list, to $50 for longer stories like a sex and dating column or a feature.
The goal is to become a place where College Students need to come to daily for all things they're interested in.
We want this to be something you can do on the side and in addition to your work for CoJMC or UNL publications. Get paid more and get published on a national Web site/magazine.
Here are the new sections we need filled:
News: This is the biggest and most important new feature of the Web site. The goal is to have a site that is updated constantly with news that we find relevant to college students. We will be joining newsfinder, which will give us hundreds of stories a day to choose from, but we'll also need people who are online all day, constantly looking for important breaking news that college kids need to know about. We will pay a few journalists to cover a few news web sites and find the most pressing headlines throughout the day.
Polls: Another big addition, this will be where we are constantly coming up with polls to track what readers feel about current news items as well as silly topics. Poll questions will range from "Who should Barack Obama pick as his running mate" to "What has been the best summer movie been so far?"
Movies: We'd like quick 100-150 word reviews, DVD reviews, columns about directors, themes and whatever else you're interested as well as lists for our top 5 section.
Top 5 : We want to compile a Top 5 of everything interesting. From Top 5 summer reading books and Top 5 movie nude scenes to top 5 pranks to pull on your roommate to.The more creative the better.
Blogs: A couple of you are already working on blogs for the new site, but we'd like to get 4-5 active blogs going. Let me know if you have a blog or know of an interesting one we should be linking to.
Dirty Sports: We currently have one weekly sports columnist, but we'd like to have a couple of reporters constantly monitoring the internet, looking for the other side of sports. We won't be reporting scores on here. We want to be talking the scandals: Pacman Jones' latest time "making it rain," Shaun Chacon choking his GM, Ozzie Guillen's latest racial tirade...the more ridiculous the better.
Ear Candy: The music section will consist of reviews of new releases, themed mixes, on tour (a list of what bands are on tour with a link to tour dates) music news and features.
Your Views Your Voice: This is a politics section. We will be updating with the politics news of the day, but the main purpose of this section is to give students a place to talk about issues that matter to them and then have College News staff relay their messages to congress. This section will need someone working multiple times a day.
Sex and Dating: We'll need columnists who want to write a weekly or bi-weekly column for the site.
Videos: Only the best of the best. The funniest, shortest videos on the web. Ideally stuff you can watch at work or at school with no volume. Everyone can do this. We'll pay based on which videos get rated highest/seen the most.
