Opportunities at the Daily Nebraskan

Experience, clips, flexibility and paid positions - all are available at the Daily Nebraskan. Pick up an application today.

For us news and editorial majors, potential employers no longer solely look at our transcripts when considering employment positions, but also at our level of newspaper experience. Experience with a daily newspaper can give you a competitive edge that many other students won't have. Yes, our college does provide us with the opportunity to be published via Red Wire and News Net Nebraska, but many of us won't have the opportunity to take such a class until later in our college careers. Where else can we get experience or compile clips?

The answer lies at the Daily Nebraskan.

The newspaper provides an opportunity to put our skills to work.

The DN offers many positions to choose from. You could write news, features or sports. You could take photographs, design pages or work with advertising. No matter what you choose, you will learn a lot about how a daily newspaper works and how our university works. You will also reap the benefits of working on a college newspaper ranked fourth in the country by the Associated Collegiate Press. The DN is also one of the largest daily newspapers in the state.

You will get clips by working at the DN, which come in handy when applying for internships and jobs. Also, many benefits come from working with older reporters. They have taken the classes we will be taking in the future, and they are full of advice and support. Most have had internships, and many have many contacts in the industry.

You may think your schedule won't allow you to take on a DN position or that you aren't good enough to work on a college newspaper. These aren't reasons to ignore working for the DN. The DN offers a lot of flexibility; you can designate how many articles you write, and editors are more than happy to help guide you on your reporting journey. Also, working at the paper will teach you to manage your time, a valuable skill employers look for.
Don't forget, these are paid positions! Most college papers expect you to work for free, but not here.

Take advantage of the opportunity you have as a University of Nebraska-Lincoln student. Work for the Daily Nebraskan.

Applications are in the DN office located in the southwest corner of the Nebraska Union basement or can be downloaded from www.dailynebraskan.com/apply . If you have any questions about the application, please e-mail apply@dailynebraskan.com
