Arkansas Democrat-Gazette needs education writer
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, a newspaper that gives high priority
to the coverage of education, is looking for an experienced hand. We
send reporters wherever the story is happening -- at the state
Capitol, federal court, a charter school in the Delta.
The field is as wide as your own curiosity and energy. Our two-person education
desk covers everything from preschool to higher education. The
reporters cover three local school districts, two of which are the
largest in the state. But as a statewide newspaper, we also track
policy issues emanating from such agencies as the Arkansas Department
of Education and Arkansas Department of Higher Education. The state's
recent governors -- Bill Clinton, Jim Guy Tucker, Mike Huckabee and
now Mike Beebe -- have made education a major component of their
administrations.
The ideal candidate for our education beat opening
would have prior experience as an education writer. We place a high
premium on education stories, which most often land on Page One or on
the metro section cover. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the state's
largest newspaper, has a daily circulation of 182,212 and Sunday
circulation of 274,494.
