ABC News Medical Unit job openings
The ABC News Medical Unit in Boston is looking for entry level people to work in the OnCall+ project where thousands of video answers from experts are provided about a variety of diseases. We have openings for production assistant positions for people who have obtained some experience in either television video production, web research, or medical news writing.
For video production we are seeking someone who has been involved either professionally, or through internships and college, shooting, editing and producing pieces. Experience with digitizing video is critical. Knowledge about medical journalism is important.
For web researcher, we are looking for someone with web skills who either professionally or through internships and college has been involved in researching web sites, learning about how to monitor traffic, and evaluating different features on web sites.
For medical news writing we are looking for someone who has majored in medical journalism, or has a strong focus in writing medical stories professionally or during internships and at college.
In addition to these specific responsibilities, everybody on the OnCall staff must be involved in doing transcripts of interviews, creation of story pages and procedural steps necessary to input interview pages into our video system, which does not require special skills
These are free lance jobs, full time for 30 weeks, at which time it is necessary to drop down to under thirty hours a week. However, ABC News is exploring the possibility of expanding this project, so there may be opportunities for full time staff positions. The salaries are $750/ week with no benefits for free lance positions. These positions are in the Boston bureau which is in Needham, outside of Boston. Because these are free lance entry level positions candidates from outside Boston must travel at their own expense if they are invited for an interview.
