Paid Internship with Lincoln Public Works & Utilities
Lincoln Public Works & Utilities seeks an intern to assist with the preparation, research and planning of the Department’s public outreach program. Interested individuals should be a Junior, Senior or Graduate Student in the College of Journalism and Mass Communication. The intern position will involve about 15 hours per week, with opportunities for additional hours during breaks and holidays, for the 2009/10 school year, at a salary of $10 per hour. Our Department responsibilities cover transportation, water quality, and wastewater/solid waste operations.
Work includes:
- Assist in assembling and producing of press conferences.
- Assist in preparing interviews, assisting with shooting videos and editing videos.
- Research information and prepare written descriptions for operations and construction projects, working with Department Staff.
- Research and assist in the information and data assembly for the Department web pages.
- Work with the various division representatives in the creating a collection of operations and construction photographs.
- Recommend various alternatives in modes of community interaction and information gathering. Traditional modes include radio, newspaper, television, and cable access television.
Interested candidates must submit a cover letter, resume, two or three samples of writing and a statement of interest no more than half a page in length. Then turn in all of these items as a packet to the Journalism & Mass Communication Office by next Monday, August 31, 2009, to the attention of Professor Amy Struthers. Applicants will be shortlisted and interviews of three individuals will be scheduled for the week of September 7 - 11, 2009. The successful candidate will be notified by Monday, Sept. 14 and can start as soon after that as possible.
