Student, professor help Habitat for Humanity
Student Susanne Novak and faculty member Phyllis Larsen were instrumental in the Lincoln/Lancaster County Habitat for Humanitys winning an award of $10,000.
Novak wrote a story about a Habitat family for Larsens public relations course. Novak sent her story to the Lincoln Journal Star, and reporter Cindy Lange-Kubick made it the basis of a feature she wrote for the paper. That story helped to jump-start a fundraising effort for the familys Habitat house.
Larsen, who is also PR committee chairwoman for the local Habitat chapter, sent the story to Habitat International, which decided to use the story in its marketing efforts. The international organization will give a $10,000 award to the local affiliate for each marketing tool created using the Lincoln-based story.
