Peter Mayeux

Peter Mayeux was inducted into the Nebraska Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame Aug. 15.

Mayeux taught broadcasting at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for 36 years before retiring in 2005, producing hundreds of graduates who have gone on to work in Nebraska broadcasting. In 1985 he wrote, “Writing for the Broadcast Media,” which was adopted by universities in more than 100 countries.  He published two other textbooks that focused on mass media writing , wrote short biographies and articles for trade publications; contributed to media book reviews; and produced a CD on Nebraska media history.

Mayeux has been awarded several professional awards from various broadcast organizations, including the 2005 Edward L. Bliss Award for Distinguished Broadcast Journalism Education. The Society of Professional Journalists recognized Mayeux for radio documentaries that he produced with his students.  

Mayeux held various positions at KRNU FM in Lincoln: first as operations manager then program director and news director. He served as a producer-director for KUON TV/NET, Lincoln. Additionally, he worked at commercial and non-commercial radio and television stations in Nebraska and Louisiana.

Mayeux graduated from what is now the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and holds a Masters degree from the University of Iowa with an emphasis in broadcasting. He also served on Nebraska Broadcasters Association committees for more than 25 years.

Since his retirement, Mayeux has served as a board member of KVSS/Spirit Catholic Radio, a statewide network.
